Helsinki, Oct. 23 ( Yonhap ) - South Korea and Finland formally signed on Wednesday an agreement on nuclear cooperation covering commercial nuclear plants and security measures , information and personnel exchanges .
The agreement, which began in July, was signed during the visit of South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong -won to Helsinki. South Korean officials expect the agreement improves the chances of South Korea to win the bid to build the new reactor in Finland.
Chung met with his Finnish counterpart Jyrki Katainen, and discussed the overall economic cooperation, officials said.
The two leaders discussed global issues such as the exploration of the Arctic, climate change and green growth, officials said .
Chung previously met with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, and both congratulated each other on the 40th anniversary of diplomatic normalization between South Korea and Finland. The Prime Minister said the two countries can work together on social programs, as well as the problem of an aging society and low birth rates, officials said.
