SEOUL, March 14 (Yonhap) -South Korea offered "heartfelt" congratulations to new Pope Francis Thursday, hoping that he will pay attention to peace and unification of the Korean Peninsula and improving human rights in North Korea.
Argentina's Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elevated to the papacy by the College of Cardinals, who met at the Vatican on Wednesday (local time) to choose a successor to Pope Benedict XVI who resigned last month. After the election, he chose the name Francis.
