SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Yonhap) - Exports of products of information technology (IT) recorded a big increase last month, thanks to strong sales in the United States and Southeast Asian countries, said Thursday the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning.
In July, domestic exports of IT products increased 10.1 percent over the same month last year, reaching 14.070 billion, according to ministry data.
This is the 11th consecutive month that exports of IT products in the country registered a growth.
The trade surplus in the IT sector of the country also reached 7.320 billion, as imports rose 6.1 percent year on year to 6.750 million.
The minister attributed the growth in exports to a further increase in shipments to the United States and Southeast Asian countries.
Exports to the United States increased by 37.3 percent year on year to reach 1.450 billion and those to the 10 countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations recorded an annual increase of 20.7 percent to 1,660 million dollars.
Shipments to China rose 10.4 percent year on year to 7.240 million in July.
Exports of mobile phones, including smart, rose 31.2 percent year on year to 1.880 million in July, and semiconductors grew by 21.7 percent to 4.800 million, according to the ministry .
Meanwhile, exports fell in July screens for the third consecutive month to reach 2,360 million, a decrease of 15.1 percent, due in part to low demand in China after finishing in April subsidies Chinese Government to the TVs.
