SEOUL, Sept. 26 ( Yonhap ) - The defense ministry said Thursday , he presented to the National Assembly for approval , a request for budget worth 35.8 trillion won ( U.S. $ 33.358 million ) for fiscal year 2014 , an increase of 4.2 percent compared with this year's budget .
The proposal includes improving social services and increasing soldiers ' salaries by 15 percent , according to which the salary increase of 117,000 capes won ( $ 109 ) to 134,600 won ( $ 125 ) monthly .
The move comes as the president , Park Geun - hye , promised to double the salaries of the soldiers to appear attractive to them and their parents, who have demanded for a long time , a pay raise for military service , which is required by law to all healthy men in the country.
The current amount is roughly equivalent to three working days, assuming that an employee works eight hours a day for a minimum hourly wage at 4,580 won ( 4.26 U.S. dollars ) .
For the purchase of weapons , the ministry allocated 10.6 trillion won ( U.S. $ 9.887 million ) to improve combat capabilities and missile , an annual increase of 5.8 percent.
The procurement plan includes the purchase of multipurpose commercial satellites , unmanned spy planes and ballistic missiles high altitude to establish a preventive system destruction of missiles, called " kill chain " (kill chain) .
The missile system is designed to detect signs of impending missile or nuclear attack North Korea and preemptive strikes to eliminate the threat .
The proposed budget includes the additional purchase of missile interceptors and PAC -2 current system improved PAC-3 missiles to deter North Korea as part of efforts to improve the system Missile Defense South Korea.
The budget plan needs parliamentary approval before being implemented by the government in fiscal year 2014 , which begins on January 1st.
