SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Yonhap) - South Korea will host, at the end of next month, an international conference on the economic reconstruction of Syria, ravaged by war, said Sunday a government source.
"We are discussing with related countries holding a team meeting on Syria's economic reconstruction," said the source, adding that the detailed date has not yet been confirmed.
It was expected that the meeting of the Working Group for Economic Recovery Syria originally held in Seoul September 12, but was postponed as did the possibility of a military intervention against the Syrian regime.
The group is part of the diplomatic activities conducted by the Friends of Syria, which consists of some 70 nations who support the opposition forces in that Middle Eastern country.
The previous two meetings were held in the United Arab Emirates and Germany in 2012.
At the third meeting in Seoul, attended by government officials from about 60 countries, international organizations and representatives of the Syrian National Council, which is the group of opposition forces fighting the government of his country.
During the conference, participants will discuss measures to help the Syrian people to rebuild its economy, ravaged by war, the ministry said.
The civil war in Syria began in early 2011, when the government carried out a vicious crackdown on opposition forces, calling for government reforms as part of numerous civilians antigovernment protests in the Arab and African regions.
