SEOUL, Oct. 8 ( Yonhap ) - South Korean companies Samsung Electronics Co. , LG Electronics Inc. and LS Industrial Systems Co. were named among the 100 world's leading innovators in the annual Thomson Reuters study published Tuesday .
Samsung Electronics Co. is the world's largest maker of smartphones, memory chips and flat screen TV , LG Electronics Inc. is the world's third largest smartphone while LS Industrial Systems Co. is a leading manufacturer of electrical components.
The award is given to companies that demonstrate innovation institutes by measuring factors such as the volume and the influence of its patents. It is the third consecutive time that the three companies listed .
By country, the United States topped the list with 45 companies , including Apple Inc. and Google Inc. , was followed by Japan with 27 companies , including Toyota Motor Corp. - and one research institute, and France came in third place with 12 companies .
