Sejong , Oct. 21 ( Yonhap ) - The next year, the budget for gender equality will increase greatly, which aims is to examine the way in which public spending obstructs or promotes gender equity and determine how allocations budget affect social and economic opportunities of men and women , showed Monday a government plan .
According to the Government's plan, submitted to the National Assembly, the size of the budget for gender equality will increase by 68.6 percent year on year to 22.43 trillion won (U.S. $ 21.154 million) in 2014.
The number of projects that will benefit the budget saw an increase of 64 to reach a total amount of 339. The basic purposes of the project are to strengthen the capacities of women, building a base for compatibility between motherhood and work, the eradication of family violence, the guarantee of human rights and improving attendance social.
For example, the cost to attend the parenting increase by 18.6 percent to 3.07 trillion won ($ 2,900 million) in 2014.
Spending for projects to prevent sexual crimes and help victims recorded an annual increase of 5.8 percent to reach 31,400 billion won ($ 29.6 million ) next year .
In order to improve the representation of women, the Government will make a contribution of 5,190 billion won (4.89 million dollars) to UN Women.
