SEOUL, Oct. 22 ( Yonhap ) - More than 1,000 government officials and experts from over 40 countries met Tuesday in South Korea to participate in a forum on e-government system , organizers said .
The World of E-Government Forum 2013, organized by the UN and the Ministry of Security and Public Administration in South Korea , opened Tuesday in Ilsan , north of Seoul , and will take place over two days.
It is hoped that the forum, whose theme is " Smart and intelligent society government openness, sharing, communication and collaboration “, is a place for" comprehensive discussions on the role and trends of e- government in the new era”, the ministry said.
"The smart government brings happiness to the citizens based on the values of openness, sharing, communication and collaboration. Therefore e-government, which is the most effective and the essential foundation for achieving smart government, is becoming more important than ever, "said Minister Yoo Jeong -bok in his opening speech.
South Korea, one of the world's most wired countries, is the world leader in the field of public domain used for the management of state finances, tariffs , public procurement , patent data and other administrative procedures and public records.
The system, which is ranked No. 1 among nearly 190 countries in the survey of e-government systems of the United Nations in 2011 and 2012, helps promote efficiency and allows citizens to be more interactive with its administration, according to the ministry
