SEOUL, Jan. 2 ( Yonhap ) - The International Telecommunication Union (ITU ) held in october in South Korea, its decision-making conference of high level, taking part in the ministerial representatives of the 193 member countries , organizers said on thursday.

Representatives will discuss and decide on key outstanding issues in the global ICT sector.
During the conference, which is held every four years, participants will make decisions on the budget and policy for the next four years and elect five executives of ITU.
South Korea is a candidate to lead the Standardization Sector ITU Telecommunication , known as ITU -T , which has the final say in setting telecommunications standards .
The main topics on the agenda include the prospects for sustainable growth based on ICT and convergence of ICT and other industries such as the medical field and cybersecurity.
South Korea hosts the ITU meeting for the first time in history. It is also the first time in 20 years that the meeting be held in Asia. The Japanese city of Kyodo had organized the meeting in 1994.
South Korea is planning several events within the framework of the conference to present the development and future vision of broadcasting technologies and telecommunications in the country.
From 20 to 23 october an exhibition of ICT will be held to introduce new products and technologies of ICT, while it is expected that a global forum of ICT from 27 to 28 october to celebrate the outstanding academic directors and executives business changes and discuss the future of ICT.
The meeting will also provide an opportunity to experience the pop culture of South Korea, known as the " Korean Wave " or " Hallyu " .
The Ministry of Science , ICT and Future Planning launched last October, a preparatory committee and a planning group for ITU conference. The ministry said it hopes the conference will increase the brand value of South Korea and Busan and provide local businesses the opportunity to venture into foreign markets
“The conference will probably generate economic effect spread some 712,000 billion won (677.2 million dollars), as it is expected that about 3,000 participants and 300,000 tourists visit the country”- ministry said.
