SEOUL, January 14th (Yonhap) - It is expected the number of Korean travellers abroad to exceed 16 million this year, posting a record high, as showed in a report released on Tuesday by the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute (KCTI).
Also, it is anticipated that South Korean tourists to other countries will reach 16.17 million this year, an 8.7% rise compared to last year.
"The significant increase in the demand for tourism abroad is attributed mainly to the increase of the holidays, the increase in low cost flights and prolonged appreciation of the local currency," said a KCTI researcher.
It is estimated that the number of South Koreans who travelled abroad last year was 14.87 million.
Meanwhile, it is predicted that foreign tourists to South Korea will reach 13.21 million this year, up 8.3 percent year on year.
