SEOUL, Oct 20 (EFE) .- Spain and South Korea have committed to promote bilateral cooperation and exchanges in science and technology with the signing of two memorandums of understanding in the South Korean city of Daejeon, reported diplomatic authorities of both countries.
The Secretary of the State for Research, Development and Innovation, Carmen Vela, and representatives of South Korean science and industry ministries signed the agreements at the World Forum of Science and Technology that started yesterday in this town located about 160 kilometers from south of Seoul.
In the field of the industrial technology both countries agreed to "promote cooperation based on reciprocity and mutual benefit between their industries and technology sectors" According to the first of the two memoranda signed yesterday.
The text incorporates the mutual willingness to undertake cooperation activities in biotechnology, environmental technologies -In this point reflect the concept of "smart city" - aerospace and information and communications technology and new materials.
Some of the future joint initiatives could reach through the Eureka, a European initiative to support transnational cooperation in R & D for commercial purposes which brings together 38 countries in which South Korea is a partner state program.
The second memorandum of understanding signed today covers cooperation in science and technology in general through "exchanges between governments, research institutes and schools, businesses and any other institutions of the two countries" in the sector according to the text of the agreement.
Specifically highlights the commitment of both countries to organize seminars and workshops on science and technology and human resources organized to exchange new joint research projects or sharing policies and technologies in this field.
To do so will be created a set of science and technology which will meet every two years alternately in Korea and Spain committee.
The Global Forum on Science and Technology which extends until Friday supposes the first official meeting of representatives of science and technology of the countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
