Seoul, April 20 (Yonhap) - South Korea has instructed to their overseas missions located in earthquake-prone areas of the Pacific Ocean to review their preparedness for natural disasters, after that various devastating earthquakes affected Japan and Ecuador, reported the officials from Seoul.
The South Korean government has ordered its embassies and consulates part of the so-called “Pacific Ring (or Belt) of Fire” to revise the number of South Korean residents and tourists within their areas of responsibility and to ensure that the response systems to natural disasters are actually working.
In the Circum-Pacific Belt of 40.000 km, also known as “Pacific Ring of Fire”, there have been a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The belt includes Indonesian archipelago, Philippines, Japan, Kuril Islands and the west coast of North America.
After the two earthquakes which hit the South of Japan on Thursday and Saturday, and the seism suffered by Ecuador on Sunday, the concerns are being increased against other possible earthquakes that may take place in the areas of the mentioned Ring.
Although there have been a hundred of reported victims in both affected countries, no South Korean victims have been reported to the moment, according to the government of Seoul.
