The new headquarters of the Hyundai Motor Group will be built in southern Seoul by 2021 and will be the tallest building in South Korea, the district office said Wednesday.
The draft environmental impact study the company sent to the Gangnam district office shows that the main building of the Global Business Center (GBC) project will be 569 meters high.
Earlier, the company had said the building would be 105 stories high and 553 meters high, below 555 meters of the Lotte World Tower skyscraper that the Lotte Group built in southern Seoul and whose opening is pending government approval.
The district office said that from Thursday until early next month, it will make the study available to residents to receive their views on it, and pledged to conduct a thorough analysis of the potential impact on traffic and environment.
A district official said Seoul should review and approve the plan promptly so construction can begin in the first half of this year.
The GBC complex will include offices, hotels and shopping centers.
Together with the nearby Convention and Exhibition Center (COEX), the GBC will become a national meeting, incentive, convention and event center (RICE), according to experts.
