The Korean Cultural Center presents the Permanent Exhibition of Traditional Crafts entitled "Korean Crafts and Women", which will remain open from June 3 to August 31, 2016 at the Han-ul Gallery of the Korean Cultural Center.

 

In the past, Korean artisans developed a wide range of techniques to produce the items they needed in homes over several millennia. They made wooden furniture such as cabinets, drawers and tables, with great precision for balance and symmetry. Also, they wove beautiful baskets, boxes and mats with bamboo, wisteria or torndaza. On the other hand, they used the role of blackberry stems to make masks, dolls and ceremonial ornaments, and they decorated various elements of the home with black and crimson lacquer, collected from nature. They also developed the technique of decoration with laminated bull horns, pearl mother of pearl and abalone to add beauty to the durability of the furniture and household ornaments. Other important elements in Korean traditional craftsmanship are tassels with tassels made with artistic knots (Mae-deup) and dyeing fabrics with natural pigments, which were widely exploited for the elaboration of personal clothes and ornaments, and decorative elements for the home .
