Samsung Electronics Co., the South Korean technology giant, has been the world's largest publicist last year, said a global consulting firm.
Ad Age presented the top 100 publicists in the world showing that Samsung accumulated $ 11.2 billion in advertising and sales promotion in 2017, an increase of 13 percent compared to a year earlier.
The high spending was to improve the image after the widespread recall in 2016 of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones due to battery explosions, according to industry observers. It is the first time that Samsung takes the first place on the list.
The packaging giant Procter & Gamble Co. was the second, having spent $ 10.5 billion on advertising and other marketing costs in the inter-annual period. Next they were L'Oreal, with 8.600 million dollars; Unilever, with 8,500 million dollars; and Nestle, with 7,200 million dollars.
The total spending on advertising by the top 100 advertisers grew 4.9 percent last year to 279 billion dollars, with 68 firms raising their spending compared to the previous year, the consulting firm said.
However, Samsung has reduced its spending on advertising this year. According to regulatory data, its spending on ads was down 24.3 percent year-on-year at the end of September.
